A Canadian mounted policeman holds a portfolio regarding Sir Samuel Steele before a repatriating ceremony of the collection of his military memorabilia in the presence of Britain's Prince Edward (not in the picture) at Canada House in central London on June 19, 2008. Steele was connected with many major events in Canadian history, stretching from the Fenian raids to the First World War. His actions as an officer of the North West Mounted Police, particularly during the Klondike Gold Rush, helped form the image of the Canadian Mountie that persists to this day. The material of the collection had been passed down through Steele's descendants in the United kingdom, who wished it to be kept intact and sold to a public institution in Canada.
